Interpreters for your conference

If you are preparing an international meeting or conference requiring consecutive interpreting, see our step-by-step guide to organising a meeting with consecutive interpreters.

Consecutive interpreting

Consecutive interpreting is carried out in segments via breaks in a speech. The speakers and interpreter speak one after the other. Generally, the interpreter appears on stage next to the speaker.

Speakers usually leave intentional breaks for interpreters to translate. In other instances, the interpreter takes notes while the speaker talks and gives a summary of what has been said after the speaker has finished talking.

This type of interpreting does not require any specific translation equipment. It is therefore a cheaper option to traditional, simultaneous interpreting. However, consecutive interpreting has the major disadvantage of doubling the speaking time. We therefore only recommend using consecutive translation for short institutional presentations, such as lectures or press conferences.

Liaison interpreting

LLiaison interpreting is a form of oral translation between two or more people. Interpreters work consecutively in both directions so that people who don’t speak the same language can communicate. This type of interpreting is perfect for meetings or small delegations. There is closer contact between those attending the meeting because no interpreting equipment is used.

Connected Language Services is on hand for all your consecutive or liaison interpreting needs. We provide professional interpreters in French-English, French-Spanish, French-Italian, French-Arabic, and other languages on request.
